If The Gentlewoman had a shop, it might look something like Cedar & Hyde Mercantile in Boulder, CO. The store is carved roughly into thirds: men’s, women’s, and housewares. Much of the ladies’ clothing is flowing and minimalist, borderline androgynous. The guys section, by contrast, is manliness filtered through an outdoorsy heritage lens—all handsome plaids and suede button-downs. Sister shopkeepers Christie and Poss Lambert have a keen eye for the covetable. Why yes, come to think of it, you do need a vintage African indigo scarf, fringed leather necklace from Crescioni, those culty Rachel Comey ankle boots all the New York girls wear, restaurant-ready pottery from Humble Ceramics in South L.A., and a delicate ceramic wind chime from Pigeon Toe in Portland. Just keep an ear open for clearance sales; these lifestyle “essentials” do not come cheap.
