There are a lot of bad decisions one can make when looking for a bar in touristy Boat Quay. Stopping by Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall isn’t one of them. Jigger & Pony alum Sam Wong runs a fast-and-loose ship: no secret password to get in, no dress code, no fussy banquettes or cheesy lights, no menu, no pretension. Just tell the barman what you like—bitter and bold, sweet and sour, light and refreshing—and he’ll do you right. Or simply ask for the Milo Old Fashioned, infused with Singapore’s beloved chocolatey malt powder. Takeaway bottles of pre-mixed Ginseng Negronis are also available for anyone who’d rather have a round or two at home.
