Beans & Beats on Taipei’s trendy Fujin Street is where Mikkeller meets Madlib. The split-level shop has a ground-floor cafe serving cold bottles of craft beer, Taiwanese milk tea, light bites like cake with clotted cream and caramel, and energizing specialty drinks (espresso with an extra bite of root beer, perhaps?). The WiFi is fast and free, and there is no shortage of Monocle back issues to browse. As for what’s going down in the boutique basement, it’s mostly hip-hop and R&B records from the building’s in-house imprint, Kao! Inc., as well as LPs from artists like D’Angelo and Sade.
