Of all the third-wave cafes we tried in Surabaya, Kabinet Coffee Co. offers the most substantial brunch menu. Served in the airy, plant-filled restaurant above its single-origin showroom and roastery, the menu includes everything from freshly pressed juice—the kind you’d pay four times the price for in L.A.—to skillet-cooked eggs with toast points and chicken sausage. Lighter bites are also in order; just look out for creative house-baked pastries like hot cross buns with lava-salted egg yolks.
Oh, and about that coffee: You won’t find a more impressive variety of domestically grown beans (Aceh Gayo, Jawa Barat Peaberry, Sumatera Solok Minang Toraja Sapan, etc.) than what’s on display right here and a generous 250-gram bag will only set you back $6 to $14 USD. The baristas are some of the best in town as well, as skilled with a slow-drip as they are with specialty drinks. To wit: the beautiful bamboo charcoal latte, pictured below.
