When it comes to craft rum, it’s hard to beat the heavily awarded Maggie’s Farm Rum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. But holy smokes, wait until you try the indie distillery’s cocktails, served just two days a week (Fridays from 4 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m.) at its spacious warehouse bar in the Strip District.
Pictured above is the Eldur and Ice, an addictive blend of white rum, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and OJ, pomegranate juice, almond syrup, rhubarb bitters, and Tabasco. The Saturn is also out of this world, matching juniper-infused rum with lemon juice, passion fruit, almond syrup, and Falernum. Cocktails are $7 or $9 each, with the exception of a classically liquored-up Zombie for $12. You can see the copper pot still from the open bar and, of course, buy a bottle to go. (The Queen’s Share, a lovely reserve spirit finished in a bourbon barrel, is a solid bet.)
