Fifteen bucks buys not one but three fresh bombers at Mancos Brewing Company, a friendly, mostly-locals bar in a quiet corner of Southwest Colorado. That’s quite the steal considering it’s located just 10 minutes from a popular national park (Mesa Verde) and halfway between the bustling adventure towns of Cortez and Durango. It also helps that head brewer DeWayne Jackson knows his way around a fermentation tank, whether he’s layering rye crystals, flakes, and malt in a robust English-style IPA (Ruff Shot); pulling off a smooth, chocolatey porter (Pagan); or cooking up a collaborative Espresso Stout with nearby Fahrenheit Coffee. The brewery’s hours are limited (4 to 9 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday), but Jackson and owner Kathy Hands will be happy to sell you anything from their well-stocked cooler when they are in the back working.
