Whoa, nelly! Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen in North Carolina knows its way around a breakfast sandwich. The restaurant makes its biscuits the exact way owner David Allen’s grandmother used to make them—which is to say: big, buttery, crumbly, and salty (but nothing a jug of sweet tea can’t fix). A popular way to order it is with chicken, egg, and cheese (cheddar is standard but you get pimento for 20 cents extra), although you can also build it with sausage, bacon, country ham, or a pork chop. SBK’s Louisburg location has been in operation since 1978; here, you can sit down and have a proper meal. The Chapel Hill venue, however, is drive-through only; some mornings, the line of cars snakes down the street. You’ll understand why after you put it in your mouth.
