This bowl of mie ayam bakso, Indonesian-style chicken noodle soup with meatballs, is a lunchtime knockout. You’ll find it at the humble warung Gajah Mungkur Wonogiri, located just off the dirt road leading to Mama Bella’s Retreat in Senggigi on the relaxed Indonesian island of Lombok. Make liberal use of the table condiments—two types of chili sauce, soy sauce as thick as molasses, handfuls of crispy crunchies—and don’t be shy about buying a fresh juice from the Ks. Botani fruit stand directly next door. (It’s all in the family.) One delicious serving will set you back 12,000 IDR, or about 90 cents.
