JM Stock Provisions is a whole animal butcher and micro grocery with locations in Richmond and Charlottesville, VA. It was founded in 2013 by Matthew Greene and James Lum, former managers of The Meat Hook in Brooklyn. Not surprisingly, the dry-aged steaks and house-made charcuterie are tops. But so is everything else. The coolers and shelves are stocked with locally sourced organic vegetables, tubs of heirloom grits, chili-infused syrups, bars of heavenly Nathan Miller Chocolate, classic Duke’s mayo, Good Food Award-winning pâté de campagne, and craft beer from Omnipollo, Evil Twin, and Ballast Point. Whatever you’re doing here—grocery shopping, picnicking, hunting for edible souvenirs—the staffers are ridiculously helpful. Ask them about secret butcher’s cuts or local restaurant recommendations and you won’t be disappointed.
