The chunky Brown Butter Peach Pie cone at Sweet Peaks Ice Cream is a little bit creamy, a little bit icy, and whole lotta delicious. The fruit comes from Moss Farms in Rollins, MT, while the milk and cream are sourced from the Hutterite colony of dairy farms. Keeping it local was a big priority for Sam Dauenhauer and Marissa Keenan when they founded the shop six years ago in Whitefish, MT. These days, they’ve got three additional locations in Montana (Missoula, Kalispell, and Bigfork) and one in Idaho (Couer d’Alene).
You can usually find Huckleberry or Grasshopper Mint on the menu, but you’d be barking mad not to try one of the crew’s rotating specialty flavors. Recent hall of famers include Lemon Dill, Campfire S’mores, Dad’s Whiskey Pecan, Banana Toffee, Cardamom Plum Swirl, London Fog (Earl Grey tea-soaked cream with Madagascar vanilla, lemon zest, and vanilla shortbread cookie), Griz (salted caramel ice cream with a chocolate swirl, cashews, and chocolate chip cookie bits), and the amusingly named Bear Scat ice cream (chocolate ice cream with chocolate-covered blueberries). Snow Peaks even makes “dog pops” sound tempting: The frozen ice cream treats are laced with peanut butter, beef, and chicken broth. Our motto: Treat yo’ pets, treat yo’self.
