9 a.m., 2 p.m., 4 a.m.: It doesn’t matter when the craving hits, it’s always beignet time at Morning Call Coffee Stand. Outside of Christmas, the 150-year-old New Orleans institution slings hot bags of deep-fried, sugar-dusted brilliance 24/7. Also: chicory-laced coffee that’s strong and milky and an up-all-night classic. Morning Call has two locations, but we prefer the one in City Park, a lush green oasis well worth a wander on its own. (Hat tip to Cafe Du Monde, too, but we’re pretty sure you’ve already heard of that.) It’s cash only, obviously.
