Windy, stormy, craptastic weather is no reason to cancel an outing to Freycinet National Park in the Coles Bay coastal area of Tasmania. But if you’re short on time and lacking decent rain gear, scrap the three-hour Wineglass Bay hike (you won’t see the beach anyway, given the heavy fog) and go to Sleepy Bay and Cape Tourville instead. The walk to Sleepy Bay and back takes about 40 minutes and once you reach the pink pebbled beach, you’ll be rewarded with ridiculous views of the Hazards and waves crashing violently against the deserted shore. (Lots of purple jellyfish washing up here, too—don’t touch them!) The Tourville lighthouse, meanwhile, takes all of 5-10 minutes to conquer from the car park. A 24-hour parks pass, purchasable at the Visitor Centre, costs $24 AUD ($19 USD) per vehicle, and covers up to eight passengers.
