The next time you’re standing at the edge of the Gullfoss waterfall in southwestern Iceland—about 90 minutes away from Reykjavik—here’s a fun fact to share with whoever will listen: The massive falls appeared on both the cover of the 1983 Echo and the Bunnymen album Porcupine, as well as in the video for its single, “The Cutter.” It was dangerously icy at the time of the shoot, but video director Bill Butt had selected the location because he felt it mirrored the coldness of the music. Said lead singer Ian McCulloch, “If we had slipped, there wasn’t anything for hundreds of feet below us.” (American rock band Live also shot its “Heaven” video at Gulfoss, but you might want to keep that fun fact to yourself.)
