Catwalk, skywalk, runway to infinity—call it what you want, the Stegastein viewpoint in Aurland, Sogn is worth a stop on any Norwegian road trip. The pine-clad elevated walkway, designed by Saunders Architecture and Tommie Wilhelmsen, is located three hours northeast of Bergen and 30 minutes from Flåm. It’s 98 feet long, 13 feet wide, and stands 30 feet at its peak—that is, on a cliff that’s another 2,132 vertigo-inducing feet above the fjord. The real coup de grâce here though is the balustrade. Make it to the end of the footway and there’s nothing but a panel of glass separating you from Mother Nature.
