The Tinglewood tree carvings in Orr Park look like something out of Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Coal miner Tim Tingle started carving them in 1993 after a fierce storm swept through Montevallo, Alabama, a wee town about 40 minutes south of Birmingham. Today the park is home to more than 30 chiseled cedar trees—sporting everything from kooky faces to mythical lions and dragons and unicorns. The rolling green of the park makes for a lovely stroll, so pack a picnic and go face-hunting.
