Bicycle Heaven in Pittsburgh is the only place in the world where you can ogle four Bowden Spacelanders under one roof. Designed in the 1940s, the futuristic fiberglass bikes are worth about $48,000 a piece. British industrial designer Benjamin Bowden made 50 prototypes; 30 of those are still in existence and 17 belong to Bicycle Heaven. Craig Morrow founded the museum and shop in 2011 after amassing more than 3,000 bikes over 25 years. His oldest is an 1863 wooden Boneshaker, but the collection also includes one of 14 modified Schwinns used in Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure and a blacklight room hung with hundreds of fluorescent cranks and sprockets. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. And of course, if you need a bike fixed or want to pick up a snazzy new basket, nameplate, banana seat, or sissy bar, Morrow’s your guy.
