Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is one of the largest public aquariums in the world. Opened in 1990, it contains more than 470 species spread across 27 tanks, the deepest of which is 30 feet. Here you’ll spot manta rays, whale sharks, seals, otters, dolphins, squid, jellyfish, penguins, bluefin tuna, and other aquatic creatures both lovely and hideous. (Not to mention a couple of fat, hairy capybaras; look for them in the “Ecuadorian Jungle” section.) Bring earplugs or the patience of a saint; the screeching of excitable children is intense.
