One of the world’s most faithful renditions of legit Hainanese chicken rice comes from a city built on illusions—Las Vegas. But holy mother clucker, this stuff is straight-outta-Singapore delicious. Jenny Wong and Sheridan Su, the team behind Fat Choy, opened Flock & Fowl in Vegas’ Gateway District with the intention of doing one protein (free-range chicken) really, really well. There’s no MSG in the cooking, they use organic ingredients where possible, and they insist on making the soy and chili sauces in-house. For $9.99, a perfectly portioned pile of rice is served with your choice of juicy poached chicken, roasted spring chicken, or buttermilk-fried chicken tenders. Prefer dark meat? That’ll be $2 extra. Greens and cucumbers come on the side gratis; add-ons include Chinese sausage, buttermilk-fried chicken skin, a 63-degree egg, and a cup of chicken broth. “Flocking delicious”? You can say that again.
