Rather than go the Alamo Drafthouse route of serving a limited beer selection inside its theaters, Pittsburgh’s Row House Cinema lets moviegoers grab craft bottles and cans at Bierport, its sister shop next door. Here, general manager Theo Ackerson stocks the shelves with more than 800 varieties of liquid gold. That includes up-and-coming Pennsylvania breweries like Whitehorse, Voodoo, and Brew Gentlemen. You don’t have to roll the dice with a random six-pack, either. Singles are available throughout the Lawrenceville store and can be chilled in just four minutes if you’re running late to a special screening of Repo Man. If you don’t have time for a feature presentation, Bierport also has a tap room in its basement featuring 19 draft lines and 5-ounce flight pours. Oh, and if the place looks familiar to PGH folks, that’s because it went by the name Atlas Bottle Works the first two years it was opened. A looming trademark dispute between two breweries forced Ackerson to change the name, but that’s done little to alter its reputation as the city’s leading bottle shop.
