Film geeks gotta be stopping by Classic Movie Poster in Bangkok. Santi Tuntipantarux’s sliver of a shop—literally, it fits him, a few thousand posters, and three tiny stools for shoppers—has been operating out of Siam Square since 1997 (or, as Tuntipantarux puts it, “the year of Titanic“). Take a seat and he’ll giddily lay a makeshift table across your lap; this is so you can flip through the stock. Tuntipantarux has oodles of collectible posters from big-name American movies for sale, but the coolest stuff is Thai, Japanese, and Chinese cinema from the fifties, sixties, seventies, and eighties. There’s action, noir, martial arts, horror, science fiction, erotica, action-erotica, horror-erotica, science-fiction erotica… you get the point. Some of the movies are so obscure, even Santi hasn’t seen them—though he loves pointing at obviously undead characters, like a purple zombie with brains dangling down his face, and explaining in charming broken English, “He dead,” or “He dead but keep coming back.” Price-wise, he’s happy to bargain, and that’s good news considering you’ll want half of what’s in store.
