Desperate Housewares in downtown Atlanta is one of those vintage stores packed floor-to-ceiling with so much STUFF, patience is essential to striking gold. But gold you will find if you’re keen on 1930s Hollywood glam (think Jean Harlow in Hell’s Angels), 1950s Palm Springs sectionals (oh-so-Atomic Ranch), and 1970s tiger/owl kitsch. The goods aren’t a steal, but they’re not outrageous either; you’ll pay more to ship that Draper-esque chrome bar cart off eBay than just loading it into your hatchback. For hunters seeking more portable furnishings, the shop also sells rugged Southwestern blankets, shagadelic rugs, sequined parrot tapestries, suitcases and steamer trunks galore (hello, bedside table), and cream and black globes (always a winner).
