Say you’re gallery hopping in the Kala Ghoda art district of Mumbai—you need to sleuth out sliver of a design/lifestyle shop Filter. Owner and advertising executive Alok Nanda has already done the filtering for you, filling his boutique with framed limited-edition works by local illustrators and photographers, handmade notebooks, quippy miniature painting greeting cards, slim leather and canvas totes, small-press magazines, fancy chocolate bars and coffee roasts, minimalist watches, and big-time statement jewelry. Graphic design types will go bananas for the array of hand-drawn signs sourced from local flea markets, and no one should leave without buying a copy of artist Cyrus Daruwala’s I Take This Train Too, a cheeky illustrated guide to Mumbaikars and the maiden title from the shop’s Filter Press publishing arm.
