Junk Book Store is the largest used bookshop in Malaysia. A five-minute walk from the tourist tat of Kuala Lumpur’s Central Market, the 26-year-old store houses thousands of titles, including vintage cookbooks, travel guides, art and design collectibles, dime-store romance novels, mint-condition Life magazines, hilariously outdated textbooks, boxes of Marvel comics, and a modest selection of outré Malaysian vinyl. Nothing is dirt-cheap, but the shopkeeper is eager to bargain. It’s how we scored these campy teen novellas and a rare 1964 Volume 1 Issue 1 copy of Sub Aqua, Malaysia’s first (only?) skin-diving magazine.
