Nobody does bookstores like Japan does bookstores. Shibuya Publishing & Booksellers in Tokyo is at the top of its game, offering an astounding selection of glossy global magazines, hyper-local zines, art and photography tomes, ceramics, baked goods, notebooks, calendars, and stationery. The boutique is attached to the SPBS publishing house, whose offices are visible through large glass panels. Although most of the printed material is in Japanese, design aesthetes will still find plenty to love. Ask a worker for other bookstore suggestions and they’ll give you a hand-drawn map of the Kamiyama neighborhood. It’s printed in English and clearly targeted at travelers, but mighty helpful if you’re a bibliophile.
