Retro vibes rule at the new Dwell Hotel in downtown Chattanooga. The B&B formerly known as Stone Fort Inn has gotten a total makeover, thanks to the whimsy (and cash-money) of new owner Seija Ojanpera. The look is everything we want in a boutique inn: swanky atomic-era decor with a splash of vintage Hollywood glamour. With a little imagination, you can envision Grace Kelly paging through a magazine in the lounge or Dorothy Danridge picking up her room key at the reception desk. The overhaul includes the addition of a classy new bar, Matilda Midnight, specializing in inventive tapas and cocktails. (Our order: braised duck and rabbit bahn mi chased with a $9 Temperance—a heady blend of smoked paprika rye, charred tangerine syrup, grapefruit, and thyme.) Suites at the Dwell come with queen or king size beds, locally roasted coffee, and rain showers and soaking tubs; some also have balconies and gas fireplaces. Rooms start at $225/night and include breakfast and parking. Kids under are 12 not permitted.
