AirBNB has loads of affordable accommodations throughout Thailand, many in shiny new condo buildings. But we were most charmed by two-year-old Pyur Otel in Chiang Mai. The industrial-chic inn takes its cues from cooler-than-thou spots like the Ace and Standard—minus the icy attitude and fat price tag. Rooms are minimalist but comfortable, with soft beds, ample pillows, pretty dried flowers, delicious-smelling bath products, and jumbo windows that let in loads of light. Same-day laundry service is fast and affordable and with just eight rooms total, the young, cheerful staff tend to guests’ every need. Early risers are sent off with packed breakfasts from the ground-floor coffeeshop and they’ll happily take the pain out of annoying travel chores like e-visa printing.
In the negative column, showers are lukewarm and the internet can be slow and spotty. Don’t come here expecting to get a ton of work done. Tuk-tuk drivers also have difficulty wrapping their head around the quiet side-street location. But rest assured, Pyur Otel is conveniently located between the old walled city and the buzzy Nimman strip. For the price (from $22 USD/per night), it’s a no brainer.
