Templeberg Villa is a historic estate located on a five-acre coconut plantation on the outskirts of Galle, Sri Lanka, but it feels 1,000 miles removed from the bleating tuk-tuks and roaming packs of sun-baked tourists. The property can accommodate up to 11 guests; when booking, ask for the Saffron suite (starting at $150 USD per night), a Dutch and English colonial-style room furnished with 18th-century antiques.
There isn’t a whole heck of a lot to do out here—and that’s the point. You can play with the resident dogs, catch up on some reading in one of the pretty communal sitting areas, sunbathe, take a dip in the property’s 98-foot infinity pool, get a massage, watch staffer Sudu shimmy up the palm trees in search of fresh coconuts, or—our favorite—take a Sri Lankan cooking lesson with Trixie, the charming resident chef. (She makes a mean jackfruit curry.) Templeberg is an excellent base for exploring Galle Fort, Jungle Beach, and Unawatuna, too. Just watch out for the jellyfish.
