Le Petit Hôtel in Montreal has one of the most helpful front-desk staffs in the history of helpful front-desk staffs. Each morning, in-the-know concierge-slash-baristas make lattes and dole out recommendations for everything from local galleries to vintage shops to essential vegan restaurants (mmm, Crudessence). The all-day pastries and croissants are complimentary, as are the bicycles guests use to peddle around the city. (The hotel is nestled on a quiet street in Old Montreal, about 10 minutes from the nearest metro.) And that’s to say nothing of the rooms, which are thoroughly modern with decent toiletries from Essential Elements, a multi-jet shower, cushy robes, a salon-caliber blowdryer, and plush goose-down bedding that makes you feel like you’re sleeping in a bowl of whipped cream. Rooms come in four sizes (S, M, L, XL), ranging from 220 to 520 square feet. The largest digs have Nintendo Wii setups, good natural light, and views of historic Rue St-Paul Ouest. Rates start at $153 CAN ($117 USD) per night in the low season.
