For those who dream of roaming the country in an Atomic Age RV but can’t get the time off work (or stand the smell of mildew), there is The Vintages Trailer Resort in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Located in Dayton, about an hour southwest of Portland, it’s an ideal base for touring that #PNW wine country.
There are 19 rehabbed or retro-modern trailers to choose from: The 1947 Spartan Manor is the oldest; the 2015 custom-built Flyte Camp Neutrons, available in couple and family editions, are the newest. Trailers sleep anywhere from two to three adults and up to two children. Many have private bathrooms with toilets and showers, and the FlyteCamp models have full-on soaking tubs.
Though many of the trailers are petite in size, you’ll hardly be roughing it. Amenities include propane grills and microwaves, tabletop fire pits and fancy-ass Nineteen27 S’mores kits, iPhone docks and flat-screen TVs, hotel bedding and plush terrycloth robes, L’Occitane toiletries and Caravan pour-over coffee, outdoor patio seating, and old-fashioned cruiser bikes. Prices start around $100/night in low season and the Vintages is pet-friendly; there is even a dog park next door.
