Now you gotta understand: Nobody really goes to Jerry’s Snow Cones and Burger Shack in Memphis, TN for the hot food. Some people swear by the deep-fried pickles and muffulettas, but the rest of the menu is a little sketch: Egg rolls? Corn nuggets? Something called a Lumpy Burger? Hm, pass.

The thing Jerry’s does best is the thing it has been doing since forever (or at least the 1960s): snow cones. Specifically, Snow Cone Supremes. These are tall styrofoam cups swirled high with creamy soft-serve ice cream, packed in a powdery avalanche of shaved ice, and drenched with your choice of syrup. It’s big enough to serve three and the enemy of dentists everywhere. There are more than 50 flavors on offer, but Dreamsicle and Wedding Cake are two of the most popular. The latter, pictured above, tastes like a slice of red velvet cake trimmed with fondant—delightful in the most nostalgic way.
