You don’t have to be a mountaineer to appreciate the Mossy Forest in the Cameron Highlands. Two kilometers of boardwalk wind over, under, and through gnarled oaks, creeping vines, pitcher plants, wild orchids, and a dense carpet of ferns, eventually leading to a lookout at the top of Gunung Brinchang. The walkway ends shortly thereafter, and that’s where the real hikers set off (and the rest of us head back to town in search of lunch). Trails here summit Gunung Irau, the highest peak in the Highlands at 6,923 feet. The easy walk takes less than an hour; the tougher leg three to four, depending on just how lost you get amid the heavy fog and rain.
