Lindsey Riddle and Jamie Conway started Nourished Food Co. as a nutrition consultancy at the end of 2014, but quickly realized that what Oklahoma City really needed was a healthy vegan cafe. Sensing an opportunity, the couple opened Nourished Food Bar in a quiet corner of OKC’s Carnegie Centre, a former library turned commercial space. Their new neighbors included a design firm, the University of Central Oklahoma, and a Scandinavian spa (udånder), which gave them something of a built-in following.
Nourished runs a bustling weekday delivery-and-takeout business, but we’d argue that weekends are the chillest time to visit, especially if you want to sit at one of half a dozen counter seats. The delicious Maca Oaxaca smoothie (bananas, raw cacao powder, cinnamon, dates, and almond milk) is filling enough to be a meal, but what a shame to miss out on their kale salad tossed with slivered carrots, avocado, hummus, creamy cashew cheese, and a Caesar-style dressing. FYI: That cashew cheese is made in-house and sold by the block for $10.99—a good start to eating cleaner at home as well.
