No doubt about it, the paper goods at Pioneer House in Knoxville, Tennessee, are dynamite. Proprietor Julie Belcher has been doing the antique letterpress thing for more than 15 years, formerly under the Yee-Haw Industries handle. We love a good biscuit or boot poster as much as the next typography freak, but it’s her selection of “hillbilly vintage” that really hooks us. Think heyday Grand Ole Opry and you’re getting warmer: turquoise jewelry, beaded belt buckles, rhinestone string ties, Thunderbird bolos, fringed suede cowgirl skirts, tooled leather purses, fancy chainstitch shirts, and rainbow-bright blanket coats. It’s honky-tonk Hollywood with the prices to match. Check her website for special events; square dances and old-timey jamborees are not uncommon.
