N7 in New Orleans does not believe in promoting itself on social media. But don’t mistake it for a speakeasy; it’s more like a wine bar in a secret garden with a feverish word-of-mouth following. To find it, look for the blocky ‘N7’ spraypainted on the tall wooden fence in the Bywater. Push through the gate and you’re in.
The restaurant is from the same couple that runs Yuki Izakaya, less than one mile away; it specializes in natural wines, small French plates with a rebellious Japanese streak (to wit: tempura-battered escargot or sake-cured salmon tartine), and imported can-to-table seafood. Kick back with a bottle of wine and a jar of mussels in escabeche from Frinsa, Spain, or lobster rillettes from Groix et Natur, France, and enjoy the view: You’re dining in a yard adjacent to the owners’ private home—enveloped by trellised grape vines, seemingly a million miles from anywhere.
