If you have time to crash just one record store in Osaka, make it King Kong (キングコング 大阪本店) in Amerikamura. A mainstay in the neighborhood since 1979, it’s packed with reasonably priced vinyl in every sub-genre imaginable: J-Pop, hip-hop (old-school, middle-school, Japanese, ’90s underground…), prog, Kraut, funk, soul, ambient, psych, even comedy albums—it’s all here, hidden in plain sight. The boxed sets of rare Japanese 45s, pictured above, would make excellent souvenirs for yourself or your crate-digging friends back home.
