You know that friend of yours who always has obscure magazines on their coffee table? Ones with perplexing names like Majestic Disorder, Four and Sons, and AINT-BAD? If you live in Atlanta, Georgia, that friend is definitely shopping at COVER Books. Katie Barringer opened the gallery-like store on ATL’s Westside last fall. She specializes in esoteric tomes about food, wine, art, design, architecture, travel, and photography. Among the spines: Marcel Dzama’s The Book of Ballet (La Chose La Plus Incroyable Dans Le Monde), Luke Stephenson’s An Incomplete Dictionary of Show Birds, and Noble Rot, an indie publication about “Sex & Drugs & Pinot Noir.” In setting up the shop, Barringer took cues from her favorite avant-garde bookstores in New York City, but the space itself is thoroughly Atlantan: The shelving was designed by The Goat Farm, the 20-foot-long antique centerpiece table came from BoBo Intriguing Objects, and the towering floral arrangements are made by Le Jardin Français. It’s the ultimate depot for literary aesthetes—or people who aspire to as much.
