If you’re the sort of person who follows dedicated cacti accounts on Instagram, a visit to East Austin Succulents may send you into cardiac arrest. The talented growers at this sprawling nursery, which shares yard space with Tillery Street Plant Company, have the widest variety of desert beauties we’ve ever laid eyes on: variegated astrophytum, echeveria, aeonium, and all kinds of rare and unusual species. They sell alterna-pots and good soil and keep prices fair enough that you could fill every sunny windowsill in your house without shorting the rent. And here’s something really cool: Bring any vessel of your choosing (a rusted sugar tin, a hollowed-out book, an old cowboy boot) to EAS and the designers will make you a custom arrangement. Two-inch plants are $2.50, 4″ are $4, and 6″+ are $10, plus a modest “pot up” fee depending on the size of your container.
