Not that you could possibly miss it, but this is the entrance to Happy Puppy in Surabaya. The 24-year-old “family karaoke” chain is an institution in Indonesia, boasting dozens of garishly illuminated outlets. Private rooms are sleek and modern, pimped out with touch-screen computers that call up 60,000 songs in English, Bahasa, Hindi, Mandarin, Korean, and Japanese. An absurdity of disco balls and Spencer’s-style lighting rounds out the Vegas-lite experience, but no smoke machines sadly. Small room rentals fit up to six people and start at 55,000 IDR ($4 USD) per hour on weekdays and 65,000 IDR ($4.75) on weekends. Translation for the mathematically challenged: You and your crew can embark on a four-hour Guns N’ Roses, Katy Perry, or Drake singathon for less than a Jackson.
Multiple locations throughout Indonesia.
